The World According to Google.
I’m not the only one to say it, every halfwit will make it their bon mot. It sounds like a joke, it really isn’t. But it makes a nice sentence, doesn’t it? Oft used bit of English, never more appropriate. How many fully understand what they’re saying? For those who have trouble interpreting evidence, bullshit, lies, and modern media, all one and the same now, let me enlighten you.
Perhaps I’ll start with a simple exhortation, logical, sparse, easy to digest.
Trust nothing but your own senses. Then take what your senses brought you, and ask yourself who made it and why.
If these two sentences don’t raise your small hairs in horror, read them again. Absolutely nothing is done without design.
If your answer is God, walk away from this page.
As an Eternal, I have some background, let me share it with you.
If you’ve read my blog on racism, “The C Word”, you’ll know that racism starts in the cave, where the privileged get to stay and be safe while others hunt dangerous animals outside. We might say the same thing about reality. It is born in the depths of the cave, close to the fire, in the small circle of mortals who make the decisions.
The Shaman, who interprets, is the real ruler. The Chief next, who decrees, and has pick of the women, and the spoils. Best of the flesh in every sense. Sons of these- in the circle early, learning the lessons. Who else? Medicine man or woman. A different creature from the Shaman, this one may have some humility, but all have the same desire, to rule others. These are the Aristocracy of the Cave.
To be the one who decides, never the one who obeys, is where real power lives. All creatures know this.
The forest is full of fierce beasts, hostile primitives, most mortals are afraid in its dark depths, they go or they starve. When something frightens them they run back to the cave, the circle must listen, and help. What will that look like? How will it be interpreted by the simple, the workers? What will be done? So many opportunities to make important decisions. So many manipulations, infinite numbers of them, each tiny decision adding to the reality, the collective experience. It becomes an ever-changing beast, swollen to hideous proportions, until finally it takes over the world and makes everyone and everything the same. All experience the same reality. Whatever they’re told it is.
Only the circle has changed, expanded to include new forms of control, some of which are difficult to control. The Mediamonster is its own entity now, it takes more than a government to handle it, more than a Musk, even. Nothing will ever rein it in, now that it reigns.
Information. So important it has its own technologies, servants, temples. It’s a living, breathing commodity, like a prostitute. When you think of important information, doled out in serious documents and textbooks, picture the red, pouty lips and the open legs. The price tag.
Remember, this is nothing new. As soon as language was invented it became a tool, a weapon. Cave drawings, monuments, tablets, scrolls, medieval glories, books, pulpits, these were just early Google. Only for the elite, even the famous Printing Press missed the vast bulk of humanity. Such a form of control is too valuable, laws are made to compel literacy, curriculums are carefully designed and enforced. Why does this not horrify you?
All words are biased, even these. Especially these.
As a human, you first look for information from the world around you, using your keen new senses, a mind waiting to be filled. This includes the behaviour of the humans around you, especially those who provide sustenance, in your long infancy. As you absorb your new reality, you absorb theirs, to the point where you may come to believe in their ways, even when they contradict your own instincts or ideas. It doesn’t take long to instill a belief in a benevolent god, a hatred for harmless insects, a fear of outsiders, a reliance on others- like teachers, police, government. All this is a part of you before your new teeth come in. Then you hit puberty and enter adolescence, that unique time of life where you are forced to deny the strongest natural urges you will ever have.
Still talking about reality, how completely contrived it is, information, how completely controlled. In every country, every culture, there is a ‘they’ and they decide. It’s that simple.
It’s a long line that goes from the cave to the point where humans google for information, narrowing all knowledge down to a single source. So dangerous, so tragic. What could be worse? Hand it all over to A.I. Tik Tok for social cues, Meta for community, these are the new religions. When mortals do get together- they socialize physically, heads bent over devices, minds absent. The archeological record will change forever, as skeletons switch functions. Not a slow process, either, but instant. What will it cost you? What will it look like, the deformity? Can we call it that if your new shape suits your new life? Evolution, it can be taught to read.
It’s common to talk to someone, hear their words and respond appropriately, without ever giving them any attention whatsoever. A skill formerly only found at Courts and in Salons.
Is the rank, morally throttled, superstitious, limited peasant village, a haven of the touchable? Do we need to be having public executions again to get a reset on reality? Some real oppression to cure Fomo?
Was Wall-E not understood? Alas. Current reality makes it easy to see Utopia, not Dystopia in that gem of a story. They don’t remember the ravaged planet, just the movable couches and food delivery system. What could be better than distance from a soiled nest? What more immediate, as the sun waxes?
What does this have to do with you?
Nothing.
Keeping your head in the sand has never been easier. The sand is coming up your neck and heading for your sky.
